We talk it through
One idea, agreed before anything is booked: references, wardrobe, location, and exactly how far the images are meant to go. Boundaries are written down, not assumed.
Tommy Ryan · Photographer
Fashion, portrait, fine art and artistic nude photography in Clearwater, Tampa Bay and along the California coast — usually in the last hour before the light goes.
The practice
01A portrait is mostly patience. The camera comes up last.
Most of a sitting is spent getting somewhere worth photographing — talking, moving, letting the room settle. By the time the shutter matters, you have stopped performing, and what's left is the part worth keeping.
The work runs from clean editorial fashion to quieter fine-art studies of line and form. What holds it together is restraint: available light where it will carry the frame, one idea per session, and an edit that stops when the story is told rather than when the folder is full.
Sessions are open to individuals, models building a book, designers, expectant parents, and independent publications — on the Gulf coast around Clearwater and Tampa Bay, in California, or wherever the idea needs to be made.

How it goes
One idea, agreed before anything is booked: references, wardrobe, location, and exactly how far the images are meant to go. Boundaries are written down, not assumed.
Direction stays light — small corrections to hands, chin, weight, and where the light lands. You'll never be left guessing what to do next, and nothing happens that wasn't discussed.
A tight selection, colour-graded by hand, retouched only where a distraction pulls the eye. Delivered to a private gallery that nobody sees without your say-so.

Tommy Ryan creates portraits that balance editorial precision with something more instinctive. The work is grounded in collaboration—studying how light, gesture, clothing, and environment can reveal a subject without reducing them to a pose.
